You will be able to draw a simple but satisfying piece of art in 60 minutes.  The Zentangle® Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns, called tangles. These patterns are drawn on small pieces of paper called “tiles.” We call them tiles because you can assemble them into mosaics.  Zentangle art is non-representational and unplanned so you can focus on each stroke and not worry about the result. There is no up or down to Zentangle art.  It is a proven method to promote mindfulness and fosters self-esteem, self-confidence, focus, relaxation, creativity, and stress relief. People of all ages and skill levels can create Zentangle® art and have fun in the process

This 4-class series will provide the historical background of Zentangle while introducing the basic steps of the method and exposure to the associated vocabulary, tools, and skills used.  Through the Zentangle Method of drawing, you can relax, focus, expand your imagination and creativity, increase your awareness and respond confidently to the unexpected, discover the fun and healing through a  creative expression.  Previous art and drawing experience is not required.

Goals for these classes:  Students will learn a new art form which increases focus, creativity, and provides artistic satisfaction along with an increases sense of personal and well-being.

Series/Syllabus: Session 1:  Introduction to Zentangle

We will learn basic tangles, history, vocabulary and the process unique to the Zentangle Method.

Session 2:  Mono-Tangles and String Exploration

Building on what you learned in the Zentangle Intro class, we will play with mono-tangles, and appreciate the simplicity and beauty of a one-tangle tile.  We will also explore the path of ‘strings ’incorporating different tangles into interesting shapes.  The string will dictate the journey.

Session 3:  Black Tile Introduction

This class teaches you the interesting techniques of using white pens on black tiles. Learn how to work with gel pens, finish with white chalk and play with layering techniques. We will look into tangles that lend themselves to interesting results when working on the black paper.

Session 4:  Zendala

This class encourages focused breathing and centering while learning to create a beautiful ‘mandala’ aka Zendala.  We will concentrate on slowing down, relaxing, while learning new tangles, drawing on a circular shape…one stroke at a time.

Art Materials Fee: $15 paid to the Instructor at the first class.
