This course will explore the fundamentals of memoir writing where student’s will begin to outline their life experiences, memories, and key events in order to write about such memories in a more layered construction.

The purpose of this course is for students to understand how a memoir is composed and its relevance in contemporary literature today.

Students will participate by recording their life into shorter vignettes and by the end of the course, students should be able to have 1 or 2 completed chapters of work that can be used for a memoir novel or publication into literary magazines.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Samuel Iniguez holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from University of Washington, 2015 and an MA English from San Francisco State University in 2002. The instructor has eight plus years of collegiate teaching experience at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento, CA and has taught in the Middle East at the University of Nizwa in Oman, and the American University of the Middle East in Kuwait.

The instructor has taught freshman composition, advanced critical thinking, American Literature, Creative Writing- fiction and non-fiction, poetry, and hip hop lyrics. The instructor has also been a slam poet and won a free-style rap competition in San Francisco, CA in
