What’s Meryl Streep’s “type”? She has over a dozen. She’s a skilled lead actor and character actor.

Every movie has two lead characters: the lead male and lead female. But many of them also have dozens of actors playing character parts — interesting, eccentric or unusual characters who move in and out of the storyline, and are sometimes more memorable than the leads. In this class you’ll learn how to create a range of different CHARACTER TYPES — then choose four of them to polish and perfect. You’ll have fun and get out of any performance ruts you may have fallen into, while expanding the range of characters you can play. The exercises we’ll do in this class are fun, and can also be helpful for actors wanting to be seen by casting directors in a broader light.

In this class, our focus will be on moving our acting to a more natural and realistic level.  We’ll do “listening and responding” exercises, silent acting exercises, physical acting, and perform some longer and more complex scenes.(Some lead actors, like Meryl Streep, are also considered character actors because of the wide range of characters they can portray.)As in the first two courses, students will get lots of acting practice and performance time in front of the class.  This class can be taken independently or applied toward our Acting Fundamentals Certificate Program. Instructor: Nils Osmar
