ACRYLIC PAINTING for BEGINNERS

Acrylics are fun! They’re vibrant and colorful, and are great for beginning painters.

  • Working with acrylics can be similar to working with oils, but without the fumes.
  • Acrylics dry fast, are easy to use, quick to clean up, and are “forgiving” because you can paint right over errors in a way that isn’t possible when using watercolors or oils.

This Seattle painting class is intended for BEGINNERS who would like to learn the basics of painting using acrylics in just three meetings. In it, you’ll learn:

  • How to mix and blend colors in acrylics
  • How to use brushes to create a variety of textures and patterns
  • How to start with an image, loose sketch, or idea, and turn it into a lovely painting you can take home with you, or give to a friend
  • How to work with different mediums, to get some fun different effects
  • And more.
  • You’ll have fun, learn a lot, and you’ll learn techniques you can practice to develop your painting skills further in the future.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a $20 materials fee payable to the instructor in class. It includes paints, brushes, medium, palettes and canvases. It is not charged when you sign up. It’s fine also to bring your own materials and use them instead. Lonni Flowers, instructor.

COLORED PENCIL DRAWING for BEGINNERS

Colored Pencil Class – Course Description

Looking for a colored pencil class in Seattle that’s easy, step-by-step, and designed for total beginners?  A class where you can learn how to draw in color using high quality pencils, in beautiful, vibrant hues?  Our Colored Pencil for Beginners workshop is a good place to start.

Colored pencils are the cleanest, most portable medium you can find.  There’s no paint to spill, no dust, no smudging or smearing, and no drying time. Unlike paints, there’s no need for water or other solvents.

You can carry colored pencils with you, take them anywhere, and if you see something you’d like to draw, pop them out and sketch or “paint” a lovely color image of it wherever you are.

In this class, you’ll spend the day drawing in color, working from step by step materials created by the instructor, so you can work at your own pace, consulting with the instructor whenever you need help.

About the materials:

An inexpensive materials kit for this class will be available for purchase in the first class.  You can either bring your own colored pencils, or buy the materials in a store a few blocks from the class is held. (The store opens at 10, so you can just stop by it if you like on the way to class.)

Images at right: Working in colored pencil on a softly colored paper, the instructor starts with a sketch in pencil; starts sketching in the white areas; then begins layering in the other colors, blending carefully, to create this lovely portrait of a dog. This is one of the approaches you’ll learn in this class. © Lonni Flowers 2018.

VOICEOVER 101

There’s acting in person, on stage or in front of the camera – and then there’s voice acting.  Voice acting is the art of doing voice-over work on a wide range of features such as TV shows and feature films, animated shorts, commercials, radio plays, documentaries, video games and more.

In voice acting, the actor’s face never appears on screen, but he or she has the opportunity to create a character and make a connection with the audience using only vocals.

An actor might be twenty, forty, or sixty years old, but using your voice you can create a character of any age, nationality or species.

You can use your voice to create characters who are svelte and frumpy, attractive or repulsive, hopeless or sexy, young or old, funny or dramatic. Voice acting is fun, and a great way for actors to improve their general acting skills on and off the screen.

Looking for voice acting classes in Seattle? Whether you’re wanting to learn about acting in games, animated cartoons, or commercials, or just doing some voice acting for fun, our classes are a good place to start. Instructor: Rick May
