OIL PAINTING FOR BEGINNERS

Oil painting can be fun! Especially when you’re painting with water-miscible oils, like the kind we’ll be using in this class. (They clean up in a jiffy with soap and water — no turpentine or solvents needed!)

In this class, students will learn how to work with oils, using an easy step-by-step method that will have you falling in love with oils. You’ll learn how to paint some simple and easy shapes, how to mix and blend colors, and how to paint some easy landscape elements.

If you love the look of paintings done with oils, but have been afraid to try them because they seem like they would be too hard, this class is for you!

ACRYLIC PAINTING for BEGINNERS

Acrylics are fun! They’re vibrant and colorful, and are great for beginning painters.

  • Working with acrylics can be similar to working with oils, but without the fumes.
  • Acrylics dry fast, are easy to use, quick to clean up, and are “forgiving” because you can paint right over errors in a way that isn’t possible when using watercolors or oils.

This Seattle painting class is intended for BEGINNERS who would like to learn the basics of painting using acrylics in just three meetings. In it, you’ll learn:

  • How to mix and blend colors in acrylics
  • How to use brushes to create a variety of textures and patterns
  • How to start with an image, loose sketch, or idea, and turn it into a lovely painting you can take home with you, or give to a friend
  • How to work with different mediums, to get some fun different effects
  • And more.
  • You’ll have fun, learn a lot, and you’ll learn techniques you can practice to develop your painting skills further in the future.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a $20 materials fee payable to the instructor in class. It includes paints, brushes, medium, palettes and canvases. It is not charged when you sign up. It’s fine also to bring your own materials and use them instead. Lonni Flowers, instructor.

COLORED PENCIL DRAWING for BEGINNERS

Looking for a colored pencil class in Seattle that’s easy, step-by-step, and designed for total beginners?  A class where you can learn how to draw in color using high quality pencils, in beautiful, vibrant hues?  Our Colored Pencil for Beginners workshop is a good place to start.

Colored pencils are the cleanest, most portable medium you can find.  There’s no paint to spill, no dust, no smudging or smearing, and no drying time. Unlike paints, there’s no need for water or other solvents.

You can carry colored pencils with you, take them anywhere, and if you see something you’d like to draw, pop them out and sketch or “paint” a lovely color image of it wherever you are.

In this class, you’ll spend the day drawing in color, working from step by step materials created by the instructor, so you can work at your own pace, consulting with the instructor whenever you need help.

About the materials:

An inexpensive materials kit for this class will be available for purchase in the first class.  You can buy the materials right in the store where the class is held; you don’t pay us, you just buy them at the counter at the store.

Images at right: Working in colored pencil on a softly colored paper, the instructor starts with a sketch in pencil; starts sketching in the white areas; then begins layering in the other colors, blending carefully, to create this lovely portrait of a dog. This is one of the approaches you’ll learn in this class. © Lonni Flowers 2018.
