This fun and easy Seattle caricature class is designed for artists of all skill levels who want to try something new and fun.
Maybe you’d like to draw caricatures at parties? Or add caricature illustration to your portfolio?
Whatever your goals are, this caricature class has something for you!
In this course we will tackle caricature drawing using two approaches; mild and exaggerated.
The exaggerated caricature is perfect for drawing celebrities, politicians, and other public figures who are perfect to make fun of.
It’s no holds barred as you squash, stretch, and have fun at the expense of these famous (or infamous) people.
Sound hard? Not at all! We will be using a step-by-step method that will teach you how to draw the face using simple shapes. Techniques how to draw each facial feature will be demonstrated, helping you simplify what you see and draw it accurately on the page. It’s fun and easy. You will be amazed how quickly you will start to see results!
After drawing a few caricatures from photos, it’s time to draw LIVE! Yes, don’t be nervous, you can do it. You’ll pair up with a fellow student and draw each other in a live setting. It will be good practice for both the artist and the subject. After all, it can’t hurt to know what your subject has to go through as they pose for a caricature. You’ll use the observational and drawing skills you learned in the first session to make your partner into a cute, funny (and hopefully non offensive) caricature.
And finally, you’ll be given a chance to let out all your pent up imaginative brilliance as you draw exaggerated caricatures. Politicians, movie stars, pop icons… nobody is safe! You’ll use the same techniques learned so far but this time we’ll push and pull the features to achieve a more exaggerated caricature that makes a statement about the subject.

- Note: Caricature is not the same as Cartooning.
- In our Cartooning class, you’ll learn to draw imaginary characters similar to Garfield, Charlie Brown or Cathy; draw comic strips; and show your imaginary characters in action.
