It was fun working with all of you in the cartooning class tonight. First, here’s a link to the video of the class, in case you’d like to revisit any of the drawing exercises – Youtube lets you easily fast forward to find any sections you might want to see:

Second, here are some of the images similar to the ones we worked on in class. Try copying this one, which I drew in a comic book style:

A simple character rotated to the front and side:

Drawing cute characters:

Remember that cute characters have LOW eyelines, LARGE eyes, SMALL mouths, noses and ears.  They also have LARGE heads and SMALL bodies, with plump, short arms and legs, and small hands and feet. Try drawing some of your own design following these guidelines. If the eyeline is too high, they won’t look cute.

The character below is more realistic but is also based on the typical “cute” character model. Try copying them then creating some characters along these lines of your own.

Drawing hair – try copying the images below:

Here I’ve added some color.  I’ll show you how to do this in a future class.

Below: Model sheets for Betty Boop and some other characters. Try drawing any that interest you.

More characters to practice. Try copying them, then creating some characters of your own along similar lines.
