NOTE: This is an in-person class. An online version is also open for enrollment; the online one meets on Sundays.

Above: What’s Meryl Streep’s “type”? She has over a dozen. She’s a skilled lead actor and character actor. Below: Jason Statham has locked in on one “type” and almost always plays similar characters. Both approaches (choosing one type and perfecting it, or, developing a wide range of types) are considered valid choices for actors.

  • Every movie has two main characters: the lead male and lead female.
  • But most of them also have dozens of actors playing character parts — interesting, eccentric or unusual characters who move in and out of the storyline, and are sometimes more memorable than the lead roles.
  • In this class you’ll learn how to create a range of different CHARACTER TYPES, then choose several of them to polish and perfect. We’ll look at posture, vocalization, and finding the character’s internal energy to help define and differentiate them from each other.
  • You’ll have fun and expand the range of characters you can play.
  • The exercises we’ll do in this class are fun, and can also be helpful for actors wanting to be seen by casting directors in a broader light.
  • As in the first two courses, students will get lots of acting practice and performance time in front of the class.
  • This class can be taken independently or applied toward our Acting Fundamentals Certificate Program. Instructor: Nils Osmar
