ACTING 102 – ASSIGNMENT 1 – THE CONFESSION

This week’s assignment is to memorize the short word piece below then perform it in class with two different OBJECTIVES

  • Your CHARACTER is confessing to an extramarital affair. You’re confessing it to your wife or husband.
  • You can choose either VERSION 1, cheating with a guy, or VERSION 2, cheating with a woman.
  • Memorize it so that you can perform it without looking at your script. (Ideally you should be able to say it as a speed through.)
  • Practice performing it with they different situations and OBJECTIVES below:
    1. SITUATION 1: You feel guilty about what happened. You’re fessing up –– hoping the person you’re speaking to will understand and forgive you. You’re trying to save your marriage, and realize that being truthful is the only chance of doing so.
    2. SITUATION 2: You don’t feel guilty. You feel completely justified in having cheated. Your partner said you were stupid — your motivation is revenge. Your objective is to PUNISH them for what they did to you… to HURT them and let them know how it feels to be cheated on.

VERSION 1: CHEATING WITH A GUY

It’s true. I cheated. I had sex with your cousin when you were out of town.

He came over on Friday, had a couple of drinks. I was telling him about the pool… he was like, “Let’s go for a swim!” I was like, “I’m good. Let’s do it.”

I go to put my suit on, and when I get back –– he’s like, naked. He starts kissing me. I kept thinking about you, and what you said to me.  How you said I was stupid,  and made fun of me when you were leaving.

Do you really want to know what happened next?

VERSION 2: CHEATING WITH A WOMAN

It’s true. I cheated. I had sex with your cousin when you were out of town.

She came over on Friday, had a couple of drinks. I was telling her about the pool… she was like, “Let’s go for a swim!” I was like, “I’m good. Let’s do it.”

I go to put my suit on, and when I get back –– she’s like, naked. She starts kissing me. I kept thinking about you, and what you said to me.  How you said I was stupid,  and made fun of me when you were leaving.

Do you really want to know what happened next?

SCRIPTS TO WORKSHOP IN CLASS – YOU DO NOT HAVE TO MEMORIZE THESE, BUT READ THEM OVER AND BE THINKING ABOUT THEM:
