ACTING FUNDAMENTALS SERIES

  • New to ACTING? Our ACTING FUNDAMENTALS SERIES (also known as the “ACTING 101 SERIES”) is the place to start.
  • You’ll learn FOUNDATION ACTING SKILLS including how to memorize dialogue (using an easy method); how to listen and respond to your scene partner; how to create characters; how to sort out your character’s motivation and goals.
  • Many of our students report that after taking this series, they feel more comfortable acting, performing and speaking in front of a group.

Acting Fundamentals Series

Most students start with the classes in this series. If you take all SIX, you will earn a Certificate in Acting Fundamentals.  For adults 18 and older.

  1. ACTING 101: FUNDAMENTALS – In this first four week introductory class, we’ll learn some basics including how to do improv; how to memorize dialogue; and how to begin performing short scenes. If you’re new to acting or have been on a break from it, start with this class.
  2. ACTING 102: CREATING CHARACTERS – In this class, we’ll focus on understanding the character(s) we’re portraying, connecting with them on a genuine level, discovering their backstories and objectives, and bringing them to life.
  3. ACTING 103: EMOTIONS – Our focus in this four weeks is on increasing the range of emotions students can feel and express when acting.
  4. ACTING 104: INTER-ACTING – In this fast-paced four week session, We’ll focus on listening to and responding to our scene partners, “making it real,” and letting go of preconceptions about where the scene is heading.
  5. ACTING 105: PERFORMING LONGER SCENES – In this class, our focus will be on performing longer, more complex scenes involving several characters.
  6. LET’S MAKE A MOVIE – In this class, we’ll make a movie, starring the students in the class. It’s a good way to get something for your reel. Some students take this class several times, to get several different clips of themselves acting as different characters, for their reels. (This class can also  be applied toward the Acting for the Camera Certificate)

SUBSTITUTIONS: You can substitute the classes below for any of the ones above. (This can be a good option for students who have already taken an Acting 101 class elsewhere, or may have difficulty completing all of the classes above due to their schedules.) Substitutes include:

  1. IMPROV 101
  2. AUDITIONING
  3. REBOOT YOUR ACTING

ACTING 105

CLASS DESCRIPTION:

ACTING 105 continues the foundational work done in Acting 101 through Acting 104. The focus is on building complex characters grounded in the reality created by the writer, and taking our acting and performing skills to the next level. Our medium will be GROUP SCENES.

One of our key points of focus in Acting 105 will be on performing scenes which involve several characters (in the same scene), and not only listening to and responding to one scene partner, but listening and responding to a group of characters and actors, to create a naturalistic performance. Actors will have a chance to play a wide range of characters as the class moves along.

You can take this class just for fun, or as part of our Certificate Program in Acting Fundamentals.
