COURSE DESCRIPTION: In this enjoyable class, open to everyone, students will learn how to draw realistic, recognizable faces and portraits using an easy step-by-step method. We'll start out by sketching in the shape of the face, learn the proportions, then add the features. Plus: draw male and female faces, angles, facial expressions, how to draw hair, and how to get a good resemblance when drawing from life or photos. The method taught in this class is fun, easy, and works. Nothing to buy or bring; all materials are provided. Total beginners welcome!
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Nils
Osmar has made
his living in the arts since the 1980s, and has taught both accredited
and non-accredited classes in Seattle for over twenty years, through
the University of Washington's ASUW
Experimental College,
Antioch University's Heritage Institute, Shoreline Community College,
the Wonder
School, and Classesandworkshops.com. He has worked as a fine and
commercial artist, and done book and magazine illustration, design,
book covers and interiors. His artwork has been internationally
published.
ABOUT THE MATERIALS:
You do not need
to buy or bring any materials to this class. The instructor will
bring soft-lead drawing pencils, sketch paper, kneaded erasers,
and art gum erasers for you to use. All of the materials are yours
to use, keep and take home with you.
ABOUT THE SCHOOL:
This class is
sponsored by the ASUW
Experimental College
and Classesandworkshops.com. It's open to everyone; you don't
have to be a U.W. student to sign up. (If an enrollee is under
18, please contact us first to make sure the class is a good "fit"
for the student)
STUDENT COMMENTS:
(I liked) the instructor's ability to simplify
the important concepts necessary to draw the human figure including
foreshortening. (comment submitted online)
Instructors attitude toward students, their objectives and their
out put was positive and affirming....encouraging and accepting (comment
submitted online)
At LAST I understand about proportions!!!!! Thank you for explaining
the difference between the three types. And it was nice having
all the materials provided. - S.L., Seattle
What I liked: the handouts, the lectures, the step by step stuff,
the instructor's knowledge and organized approach. Disliked: no
latte stand in the building! Okay, okay, I'll bring my own next
time :) --O.E., Bellevue
Thank you so much for the class. I was one of those people who
had never drawn before. Your method is great, it makes everything
fast and easy. - Shelly H., Seattle
Nils is well organized and presents the information stap by step
so that everyone can keep up. There was a good balance between
the parts where he was showing us how to do things, and the drawing
periods when we could practice it. - S.B., Seattle
I loved it, it was really fun. - K.A., Seattle
