Acting is fun! In this
enjoyable introductory class you'll learn how to create characters,
memorize dialogue, and use your voice, body and emotions as acting
tools. Plus: warmups and theater games, improv and scenework,
and information about Seattle's film and theater scenes. Whether
you're looking for a class just for fun, or have professional
aspirations to act on the stage or in movies, everyone is welcome.
Instructor has directed stageplays and feature films, and taught
acting for over fifteen years. His movies have played at international

CLASS 300: Let's
Make a Movie
Days and times: Mondays, 7-9:30 pm

In this class we'll create
and film a short independent movie from scratch. Students are
free to act in the movie, help write or choose a script, and help
out on crew. (You can choose how you want to participate.) You'll
learn how movies are made, what it's like to act in one, how to
operate a prosumer camcorder, mark scenes, set up lights, record
audio, and more. Everyone is welcome; no previous acting or filmmaking
experience is necessary. Instructor has directed both shorts and
features. His movies have played at international film festivals.

CLASS
120: Actors
workshop: Getting ready to audition
Days and times: Saturday

A fun day-long workshop
for students who would like to learn more about the auditioning
process, and work on a monologue. Course covers headshots and
resumes (including how to put together a resume if you're new
to acting), monologues, and more. You'll learn about auditioning
opportunities in Seattle, and which callboards are the most important;
how to choose a good monologue, that showcases your skills as
an actor; how to walk to a mark, slate for the camera, and do
profiles. Plus, students who want to will a chance to rehearse
and perform a short monologue in class, with a camera rolling
so you can watch it later. Taking this class will help students
get more comfortable with the process of auditioning, work the
kinks out of their monologue, and get revved up to go. If you're

CLASS 140: Actors
intensive: Exploring characters and emotion

In this class, we'll work through a series of fun and interesting exercises designed to improve students' abilities to portray a range of different characters, and make it easier to convey and communicate emotions. The focus is on finding the connecting points that will make the characters real and believable, and allow us to portray them in an honest and effective way. You'll learn ways of letting emotions surface as an actor, letting them influence your performance in a good way, then letting go of them and moving on. (Actually nice skills to have in our non-acting lives too.) You'll learn, grow, take some chances and try some new things, and have fun. of fun and easy, step-by-step exercises designed to train the
eye, hand and imagination to work together. You'll learn about
shapes and shading, pencil and charcoal drawing, "right brain"

improvement in their artwork by the second class. Nothing to buy

how to draw realistic human figures using an easy step-by-step
method. We'll start out by sketching some figures based on simple,
easy-to-learn shapes, learn about human body proportions, then

The method taught in this class is fun, easy to learn, and works
great whether you're drawing from a model or imagination. Instructor

In this enjoyable introductory
class, aimed at folks who've never painted before, you'll learn
how to mix and blend colors, use brushes, and paint some simple
objects. You'll learn a few basics about color theory and composition,
and how to paint using acrylics. We'll then move on to paint things
like trees, mountains, clouds, rocks, and still lifes, using an
easy step-by-step method. Even if you don't know an artist's brush
from a toothbrush, you'll have fun, learn a lot, and get off to

Interested in painting
faces and portraits, but not sure where to start, or how to get
results you're happy with? This class will help. We'll start out
by doing an easy monochrome (one color) painting, in which we
paint some simple shapes and get a sense of the head and face
as solid three dimensional forms. We'll then practice painting
details such as eyes, ears, noses, mouths, and hair. Then we'll

Painting at Green Lake!

Spend the day drawing
nature outdoors! We'll meet first in a classroom about ten minutes
from the lake, and practice some pastel techniques for drawing
foliage, water, and other subjects, working in soft, easy-to-blend
oil pastels. After that, we'll head down to Green Lake to spend
the day drawing and "painting" the colors around us!
(If it rains, we'll paint from projected slides.) Oil pastel materials

This class will teach you what you need to know, at a tuition
you can afford. You'll learn how movies are made (the three stages
of production, and what needs to be done during each stage); the
differences between standard and high def camcorders, consumer,
prosumer and pro models, and how to find a camcorder that has
the features you need, at a price you can afford; camera angles,
including closeups, medium shots, and how to use them to tell
your stories; how to record high quality audio, and avoid common
audio problems; how to get your movies into film festivals; and

You don't need a fancy
camera or a lot of money to make a documentary. You just need
a camcorder, a microphone, a computer for editing, and knowledge
of how to go about it. In this class you'll learn how to
plan and organize your documentary; how to set up and film interviews;
how to get good audio and lighting under field conditions.
Students will get experience thinking up interview questions and
filming an actual interview in class. Plus, tips about film festivals

writing, get practice coming up with stories of their own, and

all levels, you'll learn how screenplays are written, and have
opportunities to write some short scenes and "mini-scripts,"

script. Plus: tips for getting an agent and pitching your screenplay.
