Questions about the class
Is this class really for beginners? Absolutely! You don't have to have any previous drawing experience, to do well in it. Even if you don't know which end of a pencil to sharpen, you'll have fun and learn a lot. Do you really think anyone can learn to draw? Yes. Drawing is a natural skill, and anyone can learn to do it. In this class, you'll learn easy methods that will make a big difference in your artwork, whether you're drawing from imagination or from life. Most students see an improvement in their drawing by the second or third class. Isn't drawing really just a matter of practice? Practice is a good thing, but instruction and information are important too. It's like learning to play the piano; if you start with the scales, you're laying a foundation for improving; if you don't, you could "practice" for years without getting any better. In this class, we start out by learning a traditional method based on simple underlying shapes, then move on to more recent methods developed to help people be more accurate in their drawings. Do I need to bring any materials, or buy any in the class? No, all materials are provided. You don't have to buy or bring anything.
Student comments
I really enjoyed this class! The instructor was very relaxed and really encouraged all of us in our efforts, and answered questions and gave guidance whenever asked. The class was extremely low key and low stress, so it was kept fun and the pace was kept slow enough where I didn't feel rushed, but fast enough that I didn't get bored. I'm signing up right now for another of Nils' classes, he's a great instructor! (unsigned; comment submitted online) I liked the opportunity to learn the basics in a non threatening environment. Nils, Just wanted to let you know that I completed my application to the Game Animation Certificate program, and as of a week ago received notice of my acceptance. One of my portfolio pieces was a charcoal figure based upon one of the exercises from class - and of course, I'd never touched charcoal before meeting you. Thanks again for all the tips and encouragement! Your classes really helped polish my skills and boost my confidence a great deal. -- J.C. (Seattle) The class was well organized and you took us along step-by-step. - Mary J. (Redmond) Your teaching style was a pleasure to learn by and I enjoyed your class very much.. - Ruth B. (Seattle) I was the redhead who drove in every week from Tacoma. It was worth it. You really have something going if you can take someone like me and turn me into an artist, well, a beginning artist anyway! But that's way ahead of where I was. Thanks again Nils! - R.M. (Tacoma) Thanks for taking some time before the class to help me figure out which class I should take. You weren't just trying to "sell" me a class, you helped me find the one that would be a good next step for me. - M.J. (Seattle)
